I don’t know about you but I love beef jerky. It is great for a snack and it is also good for you as a survival food. Many people when they go camping or out on vacation will stock up on this in case they need a quick pick me up or they just want a quick snack. I you love beef jerky and want to make your own, here are a few tips that you can follow.
Tips #1 seasoning
The first thing that you want to do is pick your beef jerky seasoning. There are many different types of seasoning you can use for your jerky. If you like a sweet jerky you can pick a sweet rub. If you like savory or spicy, they have seasonings for those as well.
Tip #2 Choose your cut of meat
You want to have a good cut of meat. If you choose a poor cut of meat, you will get inferiors jerky. You want some nice marbled beef. These cuts are the most tender and when you slice them thin they will turn out better than if you had a flat piece of meat to work with.
Tip #3 Trim and slice
Once you have your cut of beef, take it home and trim it up. Get all of the fat off. You want to use a pound or more of meat per jar that you are going to be filling up. Depending on your beef, you will slice it thin width wise and then either cut down the length, into strips or another way is into bite size squares.
Tip #4 Marinade
Once your meat is trimmed and sliced up, put it in your marinade. You have to let the jerky soak good to draw out all of the flavor. Make sure that you let it soak long enough before putting it on the dehydrator or smoker so that all of the seasoning is drawn into the meat.
